What is RSVP?
Since 1971, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has addressed needs in communities throughout the United States. RSVP is part of SeniorCorps, a network of national service programs that provides older Americans the opportunity to apply their life experiences to meeting community needs. RSVP volunteers serve in a diverse range of nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and faith-based groups.

RSVP provides seniors with the opportunity to use their life skills and stay active, while making a difference for those in need. Whether they choose to volunteer regularly, or wish to work on one-time special projects, RSVP volunteers make valuable contributions that help others in Boone County.

What does RSVP do in my community?
RSVP is sponsored locally by BCCA. We currently have more than 450 volunteers who donate their time and talents to service projects, hospitals, churches and individuals in Boone County. RSVP volunteers visit homebound seniors, make blankets for needy children, and assist local agencies that provide services to the less fortunate. We also help staff fun events like Senior Games, help visitors at the Columbia Visitors Center, and promote literacy in our area schools. The possibilities are endless!

Can I volunteer with RSVP?
RSVP is committed to offering volunteer opportunities to anyone age 55 and older who wants to help make Boone County a great place to live. Whether you want to volunteer from home or go out into the community, we can help you find a worthwhile way to serve. We offer transportation assistance, volunteer placement, problem resolution and volunteer recognition. You can volunteer with RSVP!

What are the benefits of volunteering with RSVP?
The RSVP program offers volunteer placement, the opportunity to use your life experience and skills, the chance to learn new skills or enhance those you already have, transportation assistance, supplemental accident and liability insurance, recognition for your efforts, and the personal satisfaction for making a difference!

Why do I need to turn in my hours to RSVP?
In order to report the significant contributions that seniors make to our community, RSVP needs to record the hours of our senior volunteers. The general public and our nation’s leaders are not always aware of how much our senior population does for our society. They need to be reminded, especially as they make important decisions that affect seniors. Volunteer reporting is also essential for the programs our volunteers support. Please help keep these wonderful programs in place by turning in your hours!
